Deviousness |
Too bad my parents would die of cardiac arrest if I ever got one!
Anyway! I like this photo because of several things:
1) The gorgeous olive green cupboards in the background. They make a great backdrop since they are neutral, but still have texture.
2) The wooden tabletop. Matches the background and brings some warm tones into the photo to match the hand.
3) The obvious line of attention. I don't know how to phrase it, but the photo has direction because the rats whole body is pointing towards the hand on the right.
4) the composition. The rats little trembly nose is placed right smack bang in a spot of negative space. Yaaay! Offsets the left side of the photo nicely, since it's busier over there.
I do think that the photo would look a lot better without the chair or whatever behind it, because the metal bit is spearing into the rats side. And maybe the hand in a position that makes it more obvious that it is, indeed, a hand.
However, considering the fact that you dug out a camera and snapped a nice, still shot before the ickle creature launched itself in every direction, I think all mistakes can be happily excused! I really liked the soft lighting, the pretty colours, and the rats expression. The colours contrasted enough for my attention to be immediately captured, and the atmosphere is priceless. It's like the moment when somebody sticks their toe into the water to test it before they do a running jump into the water.
